Galatians 3:15-29 New King
James Version (NKJV)
The Changeless Promise
15 Brethren,
I speak in the manner of men: Though it
is only a man’s covenant, yet if
it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. 16 Now to
Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,”
as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who
is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the law, which was four
hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed
before by God [a]in
Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. 18 For if the
inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God
gave it to Abraham by promise.
Purpose of the Law
19 What
purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of
transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by
the hand of a mediator. 20 Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of
God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given
life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the
Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in
Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But
before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, [b]kept for
the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the
law was our [c]tutor to bring us to Christ, that we
might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come,
we are no longer under a tutor.
Sons and Heirs
26 For you are
all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as
many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is
neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither
male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if
you are Christ’s, then you are
Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Psalm 19 New King
James Version (NKJV)
The Perfect Revelation of
the Lord
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
19 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament[a] shows [b]His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their [c]line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
And the firmament[a] shows [b]His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their [c]line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has set a [d]tabernacle for
the sun,
5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
6 Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
6 Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, [e]converting the
soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the [f]honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the [f]honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of [g]great transgression.
Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of [g]great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my [h]strength and my Redeemer.
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my [h]strength and my Redeemer.
Isaiah
33 New King James Version (NKJV)
A Prayer
in Deep Distress
33 Woe to you who plunder, though
you have not been plundered;
And you who deal treacherously, though they have not dealt treacherously with you!
When you cease plundering,
You will be plundered;
When you make an end of dealing treacherously,
They will deal treacherously with you.
And you who deal treacherously, though they have not dealt treacherously with you!
When you cease plundering,
You will be plundered;
When you make an end of dealing treacherously,
They will deal treacherously with you.
2 O Lord, be gracious to us;
We have waited for You.
Be [a]their arm every morning,
Our salvation also in the time of trouble.
3 At the noise of the tumult the people shall flee;
When You lift Yourself up, the nations shall be scattered;
4 And Your plunder shall be gathered
Like the gathering of the caterpillar;
As the running to and fro of locusts,
He shall run upon them.
We have waited for You.
Be [a]their arm every morning,
Our salvation also in the time of trouble.
3 At the noise of the tumult the people shall flee;
When You lift Yourself up, the nations shall be scattered;
4 And Your plunder shall be gathered
Like the gathering of the caterpillar;
As the running to and fro of locusts,
He shall run upon them.
5 The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high;
He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
6 Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times,
And the strength of salvation;
The fear of the Lord is His treasure.
He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
6 Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times,
And the strength of salvation;
The fear of the Lord is His treasure.
7 Surely their valiant ones shall cry
outside,
The ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.
8 The highways lie waste,
The traveling man ceases.
He has broken the covenant,
[b]He has despised the [c]cities,
He regards no man.
9 The earth mourns and languishes,
Lebanon is shamed and shriveled;
Sharon is like a wilderness,
And Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.
The ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.
8 The highways lie waste,
The traveling man ceases.
He has broken the covenant,
[b]He has despised the [c]cities,
He regards no man.
9 The earth mourns and languishes,
Lebanon is shamed and shriveled;
Sharon is like a wilderness,
And Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.
Impending
Judgment on Zion
10 “Now I will rise,” says
the Lord;
“Now I will be exalted,
Now I will lift Myself up.
11 You shall conceive chaff,
You shall bring forth stubble;
Your breath, as fire, shall devour you.
12 And the people shall be like the burnings of lime;
Like thorns cut up they shall be burned in the fire.
13 Hear, you who are afar off, what I have done;
And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”
“Now I will be exalted,
Now I will lift Myself up.
11 You shall conceive chaff,
You shall bring forth stubble;
Your breath, as fire, shall devour you.
12 And the people shall be like the burnings of lime;
Like thorns cut up they shall be burned in the fire.
13 Hear, you who are afar off, what I have done;
And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid;
Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:
“Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?
Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
He who despises the gain of oppressions,
Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes,
Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed,
And shuts his eyes from seeing evil:
16 He will dwell on [d]high;
His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks;
Bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.
16 He will dwell on [d]high;
His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks;
Bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.
The Land
of the Majestic King
17 Your eyes will see the King in
His beauty;
They will see the land that is very far off.
18 Your heart will meditate on terror:
“Where is the scribe?
Where is he who weighs?
Where is he who counts the towers?”
19 You will not see a fierce people,
A people of obscure speech, beyond perception,
Of a [e]stammering tongue that you cannot understand.
20 Look upon Zion, the city of our
appointed feasts;
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet home,
A tabernacle that will not be taken down;
Not one of its stakes will ever be removed,
Nor will any of its cords be broken.
21 But there the majestic Lord will be for us
A place of broad rivers and streams,
In which no [f]galley with oars will sail,
Nor majestic ships pass by
22 (For the Lord is our Judge,
The Lord is our Lawgiver,
The Lord is our King;
He will save us);
23 Your tackle is loosed,
They could not strengthen their mast,
They could not spread the sail.
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet home,
A tabernacle that will not be taken down;
Not one of its stakes will ever be removed,
Nor will any of its cords be broken.
21 But there the majestic Lord will be for us
A place of broad rivers and streams,
In which no [f]galley with oars will sail,
Nor majestic ships pass by
22 (For the Lord is our Judge,
The Lord is our Lawgiver,
The Lord is our King;
He will save us);
23 Your tackle is loosed,
They could not strengthen their mast,
They could not spread the sail.
Then the prey of
great plunder is divided;
The lame take the prey.
24 And the inhabitant will not say, “I am sick”;
The people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity.
The lame take the prey.
24 And the inhabitant will not say, “I am sick”;
The people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity.
Matthew 5:17-45 New King James Version (NKJV)
Christ Fulfills
the Law
17 “Do not
think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy
but to fulfill. 18 For
assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass
away, one [a]jot or one [b]tittle will by no means
pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks
one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called
least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he
shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that
unless your righteousness exceeds the
righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the
kingdom of heaven.
Murder Begins in
the Heart
21 “You have
heard that it was said to those [c]of old, ‘You shall
not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you
thatwhoever is angry with his brother [d]without a cause shall be
in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’[e] shall be
in danger of the council. But whoever says, [f]‘You fool!’ shall be in
danger of [g]hell fire.23 Therefore if you
bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has
something against you, 24 leave your
gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your
brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree with your adversary
quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you
to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into
prison. 26 Assuredly,
I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last
penny.
Adultery in the
Heart
27 “You have
heard that it was said [h]to those of old, ‘You shall
not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say
to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust
for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes
you to[i]sin, pluck it
out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you
that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand
causes you to [j]sin, cut it off and
cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one
of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
Marriage Is
Sacred and Binding
31 “Furthermore
it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of
divorce.’ 32 But I say
to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except [k]sexual immorality causes
her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits
adultery.
Jesus Forbids
Oaths
33 “Again you
have heard that it was said to those of [l]old, ‘You shall
not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths
to the Lord.’ 34 But I say
to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s
throne; 35 nor by the
earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great
King. 36 Nor shall
you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 But let[m]your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and
your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
Go the Second
Mile
38 “You have
heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a
tooth for a tooth.’39 But I tell
you not to resist an evil person. But
whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you
and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels
you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you,
and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
Love Your
Enemies
43 “You have
heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your
neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 [n]But I say to you, love your
enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to
those who hate you, and pray for those
who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of
your Father in heaven; for He makes
His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the
unjust.
John 1:17 King James Version (KJV)
17 For the law
was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:19-28 New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Now we know
that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law,
that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become [a]guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds
of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the
knowledge of sin.
God’s
Righteousness Through Faith
21 But
now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being
witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of
God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all [b]and on all who believe.
For there is no difference; 23 for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified [c]freely by His
grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth asa [d]propitiation by His
blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His
forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously
committed, 26 to
demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and
the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Boasting
Excluded
27 Where is boasting
then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we
conclude that a man is [e]justified by faith apart from
the deeds of the law.
Romans 10:1-10 New King James Version (NKJV)
Israel Needs the
Gospel
10 Brethren,
my heart’s desire and prayer to God for [a]Israel is that they may be
saved. 2 For I bear
them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to
knowledge. 3 For they
being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their
own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the
end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
5 For Moses
writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The
man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of
faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart,
‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring
Christ down from above) 7 or, “ ‘Who
will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring
Christ up from the dead). 8 But what
does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in
your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with
your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him
from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the
heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation.
Romans 13 New King James Version (NKJV)
Submit to
Government
13 Let every
soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority
except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever
resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist
will [a]bring judgment on
themselves. 3 For rulers
are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the
authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to
you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in
vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on
him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must
be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also
pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very
thing. 7 Render
therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs
to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
Love Your
Neighbor
8 Owe no one
anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has
fulfilled the law. 9 For the
commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall
not murder,” “You shall not steal,” [b]“You shall not bear false
witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any
other commandment, are all summed up in this saying,
namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a
neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Put on Christ
11 And do this,
knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out
of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the
day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness,
and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us
walk [c]properly, as in the
day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and
lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put
on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill
its lusts.
1 Timothy 1:3-15 New King James Version (NKJV)
No Other
Doctrine
3 As I urged
you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may [a]charge some that they teach
no other doctrine, 4 nor give
heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly
edification which is in faith. 5 Now the
purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a
good conscience, and from [b]sincere faith, 6 from which some, having
strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, 7 desiring to be teachers of
the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.
8 But we know
that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, 9 knowing this: that the law is
not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and
insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy
and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for
manslayers, 10 for
fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if
there is any other thing that is [c]contrary to sound
doctrine, 11 according
to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my
trust.
Glory to God for
His Grace
12 And I thank
Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me
faithful, putting me into the ministry, 13 although I was formerly
a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an [d]insolent man; but I obtained
mercy because I did itignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was
exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 15 This is a
faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into
the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
Beware of
Personal Favoritism
2 My
brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of
glory, with partiality. 2 For if
there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in [a]fine
apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in [b]filthy
clothes, 3 and
you [c]pay
attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in
a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my
footstool,” 4 have you
not [d]shown
partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Listen,
my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to
berich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those
who love Him? 6 But you
have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you
into the courts? 7 Do they
not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?
8 If you
really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You
shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you [e]show
partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law
as transgressors. 10 For
whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he
is guilty of all.
1 John 3 New King
James Version (NKJV)
The Command to Love
3 Behold what manner of
love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of [a]God!
Therefore the world does not know [b]us, because
it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are
children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we
know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see
Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this
hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
Sin and the Child of God
4 Whoever
commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you
know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him
there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does
not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
7 Little children, let no
one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is
righteous. 8 He who sins is of the
devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of
God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever
has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and
he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
The Imperative of Love
10 In this
the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does
not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he
who does not love his brother. 11 For this
is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one
another, 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered
his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his
brother’s righteous.
13 Do not marvel, my
brethren, if the world hates you. 14 We know
that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who
does not love [c]his brother abides in death. 15 Whoever
hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal
life abiding in him.
The Outworking of Love
16 By this
we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to
lay down our lives for the
brethren. 17 But whoever has this
world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him,
how does the love of God abide in him?
18 My little children, let
us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by
this we [d]know that
we are of the truth, and shall [e]assure
our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns
us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved,
if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever
we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those
things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this
is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and
love one another, as He gave [f]us
commandment.
The Spirit of Truth and the
Spirit of Error
24 Now he
who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this
we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
